This Chilean bromeliad may be grown in containers or even planted in our latitudes. The metallic-blue floral stalks reach 2m above rosettes of silver-green serrated leaves. The plant will start to flower at maturity, at around 6-7 years old.

Use

As an isolated lawn specimen or in association with evergreen shrubs such as Rhododendrons, Japanese Azaleas, Camellias, etc.

Planting

Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in a hole with a mixture of loose soil and topsoil around the root-ball, gently tamping the earth. Water in.

Maintenance

Water well the first year. Apply an appropriate fertiliser in spring.
