They may be grown in containers in various regions and often even planted with the condition that they have a sheltered exposure in a coastal climate.
Planting
In full sun, protected from cold winds, in very well-drained, acid soil. Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Maintenance
Prune after flowering to maintain a compact form. No fertiliser is necessary unless the plant is container-grown, in which case apply a specialised Protea fertiliser. If planted, mulching is preferable to mechanical weeding.
