A member of the Bromiliaceae family originating in Chile, this plant's evergreen foliage forms large green rosettes which deepen to firey red towards the interior. Blossoms appear in corymbs in summer. Syn. Fascicularia bicolor ssp canaliculata

Use

Use as a patio plant or in "exotic" shrubberies.

Planting

Remove the plant from its container and thoroughly soak the root ball. Place the plant (not too deeply) in a hole with a mixture of loose soil and topsoil around the root-ball, gently tamping the earth. Water in.

Maintenance

Water well the first year. Apply an appropriate fertiliser in spring.
